Redding Christian High School

Welcome! We are excited to partner with families and students as they begin their journey into adulthood. This season is a time for students to recognize and apply their God-given abilities in daily life, using their gifts in ways that glorify Christ and further His kingdom.

To support this mission, we provide a Christ-centered, biblically immersed curriculum led by dedicated staff who invest deeply in each student and desire to see them reach their God-given potential.

As we move through the year, we welcome your partnership as we live out Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are older, they will not depart from it.”

With a Christ-centered culture and instruction rooted in a biblical worldview, we pray to see your students grow in their faith.

May God bless you,
Mr. Kevin Fry
High School & Middle School Principal

Redding Christian High School is a discipleship school where students must be Christians and want to attend. We are committed to educating, training, and equipping students who will make an impact on this world for Jesus Christ. Our desire is that each student walks with the Holy Spirit and learns to live God’s kingdom principles here on earth. We believe in the capacity of young people to make a difference in a world ardently competing for their hearts and minds.

RCHS students are challenged daily to perform to their highest scholastic potential, to consider how academic subjects align with a Christian worldview, and to discover through God’s Word, the strength and blessings of a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You can see these values being lived every day by our high school students.

Spiritual Emphasis Retreats!

Our goal is to cultivate fellowship between classmates in a relaxed and enjoyable Christian environment, drawing them closer to Jesus and to one another. These retreats are intended to help our students encounter God in a special way that will positively influence transformation in their hearts and minds throughout the school year and beyond.

Our Spiritual Emphasis Retreat’s are a three-day, school-sponsored getaway that takes place twice a year (fall and spring). In the fall, our emphasis is on looking forward to the coming school year. In the spring, we look back to see all that God has done through His presence in our lives.

Just as Jesus went to the mountain to spend intimate time with the Father, so we, too, provide the opportunity for our students to embrace a unique atmosphere to connect with the Lord at our Spiritual Emphasis Retreats.

Curriculum Philosophy

The Redding Christian School curriculum develops the essential skills of critical thinking, analysis, fluidity of the written and spoken word, and fluency in a foreign language and culture by implementing a dynamic, studentcentered approach to teaching. Our commitment to small class size and hiring highly respected Christian teachers results in students who are prepared to lead and serve in an ever-changing global community. Redding Christian desires to establish habits of learning that transcend the college experience and reach into all areas of life: precision in thinking, effective communication, independent reading, revision strategies, critical thinking, creativity, and most importantly—a passionate love of learning. Through purposeful, active mentorship our faculty not only teach the practical skills of college preparation, but also expose students to larger questions of the vastness and greatness of God.

Fine Arts: Band, Choir, Art, and Drama / Musicals

Both Middle School and High School have a vocal performance elective! Students enrolled in this class learn a variety of musical styles, vocal techniques, theory, and performance skills. They participate in chapels, Christmas and Spring concerts, as well as travel to the ACSI Musicale Festival and adjudication in Sacramento, and share their voices with the elderly and disabled in local care facilities.

High School Band performs a variety of genres from classical concert pieces to fan-inspiring pep selections at various athletic events. Intermediate and Concert Bands participate in the annual ACSI festival in Sacramento. Concert Band attends local events in our community to perform.

Art is offered to middle and high school students. In addition, a Graphic Design class is offered to high school students. Students learn about art history, becoming familiar with a variety of classical and modern artists in combination with various art movements. Art and Graphic Design are places for students to learn and examine the elements and principles of visual design while using that experience in the creation of their own individual artwork. Creative thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to take risks are strongly encouraged.

Our Musical unites ages 9 through 18 in a full-scale Broadway-style production for the Cascade Theatre stage. These shows are performed for the public and have drawn a following from not only our school and parents but also community members.

Redding Christian School offers opportunities to learn theater in several ways. Our Musical takes place in the fall and is open to middle and high school students. The Spring Drama is open to 3rd to 12th-grade students. Additionally, we offer a classroom drama elective in High School where students learn the foundation of the entire dramatic process.

Join National Honor Society!

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

RCHS Sophomores – Seniors are eligible to apply for the National Honor Society. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above. Throughout the year, this group organizes several service events, including the High School Service Day and the Blood Drive. In addition, the National Honor Society staffs an after-school Tutoring Lab.

LIONS FFA: Rooted in Agriculture, Built for Leadership

Redding Christian FFA established its chapter in the 2023-2024 school year to teach students the value of science and agriculture in California. They have developed community service projects with their school garden and hydroponics products, teaching the elementary classes about food production. High school students also compete in speaking contests, attend leadership workshops and forestry events, perform at state conferences, and exhibit at local county fairs. Attendance in specific A-G science classes makes students eligible for FFA. To learn more, connect with Dr. Heather Evans here!

Lions Athletics: Competing With Heart & Honor!

We believe a strong athletic program provides many opportunities for students to grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Sports programs create a healthy social outlet for our athletes and provide opportunities to build school spirit. At Redding Christian School, we emphasize developing Christ-like character through athletics. Displaying sportsmanship in competition is a great way to be a witness for Christ to opponents, officials, and fans in attendance.

RCS offers a wide range of athletic programs throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons, where students compete with heart, integrity, and purpose. Click here to explore our teams, celebrate our achievements, and join us as we cheer on the Lions—honoring God through teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

Graduation Requirements

Redding Christian School meets A through G requirements as part of our accreditation with WASC and ACSI. The following sequence of high school courses is required by the Academic Senate of California as appropriate for fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements for admission to the University of California system. It also illustrates the minimum level of academic preparation students ought to achieve in high school to undertake university level work.

The A-G Requirements can be summarized as follows:

  1. History/Social Science – Two years, including one year of world history, cultures, and historical geography and one year of US history and one half year of civics and American government.
  2. English – Four years of college preparatory English that includes frequent and regular writing, and reading of classic and modern literature.
  3. Mathematics – Three years of college preparatory mathematics that include the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two and three-dimensional geometry.
  4. Laboratory Science – Two years of laboratory science providing fundamental knowledge in at least two of these three disciplines: biology, chemistry, and physics.
  5. Language other than English – Two years of the same language other than English.
  6. Visual & Performing Arts – One year, drama/theater, music, or visual art.
  7. College Preparatory Elective – One year (two semesters), chosen from additional A-F courses beyond those used to satisfy the requirements above, or courses that have been approved  solely for use as ‘G’ electives.

Redding Christian Graduation Requirements are as follows:

  • Bible – Four years
  • English – Four years
  • Foreign Language – Two years
  • Math – Three years
  • Physical Education – Two years
  • Science – Two years
  • Social Science – Four years
  • Visual & Performing Arts – One year
  • Electives – 40 credits or four classes (These may be fulfilled through taking additional classes from other requirements, i.e. three years of Science would satisfy one of the elective classes.)

Community Service Requirements

Community Service is an important component of students’ development at RCHS. Our goal is to make service a way of life as students move beyond high school into their adult lives. To achieve this end, students are required to log a minimum of four hours of service in their home church and four hours serving in the community for a total of at least eight hours of service each quarter. Students also participate in a Service Day where the entire high school student body spends a day or half-day serving in the community. Finding opportunities for service can seem challenging at first.

As ambassadors for Christ in the world, we need to develop eyes to see where help is needed and serve in those areas. Some students may work in their church’s nursery, while others who are gifted in organizing might help clean out a closet. Community service could involve serving at a community event such as the Energy Fair or Science Fair, or simply raking leaves for an elderly neighbor.

Our school dress code is designed to promote modesty, unity, and a focused learning environment. Students are expected to dress in a manner that reflects respect for themselves, others, and our Christ-centered community. By maintaining these standards, we aim to encourage responsibility, minimize distractions, and support an atmosphere where students can grow academically, socially, and spiritually.

Enforcement

  • Teachers and staff will monitor student adherence to the Student Dress Code expectations.

  • Students found in violation of the policy will be reminded of the Dress Code expectations and may be given the opportunity to correct the violation.

  • Repeated violations may result in disciplinary action as outlined in the Redding Christian Student Manual.

A complete description of the dress code can be found here.

College Preparation & Resources!

It is a goal of Redding Christian School to assist our students in their discernment of God’s call and possible pursuit of higher education. To help facilitate this, RCS offers several resources.

Juniors and Seniors are able to enroll in concurrent courses with Northwest University. Juniors can take Survey of American Lierature and US History, seniors can take Composition 1: Expository Writing, and both juniors and seniors can take College Biology. This works by taking the regular/normal high school class which is approved as a college level class, and registering for the class with a cooperating university.

RCS offers Advanced Placement (AP) classes for AP Statistics and AP Calculus. Students who complete AP coursework are eligible to take the AP test for that course. Students who pass the AP test may be given college credit for the course, provided the university of their choice accepts AP test scores.

Scholarship Resources!

It is never too early in your high school career to begin your college and scholarship search. We are fortunate to have free access to College Options, a local grant-funded organization dedicated to helping North State high school students attend college or university. They assist in many areas, including college applications and financial aid. You can access them here!

College Options schedules information nights especially for parents of private school and charter school students.  This meeting offers information on finances for college as well as FAFSA information.  Check the College Options website here for this year’s schedule.

Other helpful resources can be found at Scholarship.com, a website that offers assistance in finding scholarships and other valuable financial aid information at no cost, and Student Scholarship’s site here.

Each year RCS gives two scholarships to graduating seniors: the Board Scholarship and the Founder’s Scholarship. As various scholarship information comes through the Guidance Counselor’s Office, it is passed along to students along with important dates for SAT and ACT testing.

When you come in for your Education Consult, the Admission Counselor will cover all of that information with you. While many schools don't charge tuition, the price that your student pays in terms of values and damaged self-esteem may be too high. Redding Christian School partners with FACTS tuition management for all billing. Through FACTS you can pay by credit card, cash, and/or check.
