Redding Christian is a Pre-Kindergarten through 12th-grade school in the greater Redding area. RCS is committed to providing Christ-centered education, which challenges students to develop a life-long love of learning, to grow in their faith, and to respond to God’s call of service to their families, community, and the world. Our high school is a discipleship high school, and all students must make an application, which includes a profession of faith.
The employment of staff at Redding Christian School is clearly one of the most significant responsibilities of its administration. High School Guidance Counselor
Primary Purpose: To prayerfully guide and support high school students in their academic progress, college and career readiness, and personal development in a manner consistent with Biblical principles and the mission of the school. This is a part-time position, with the opportunity to combine it with a teaching role to create a full-time position.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program that supports students’ academic, college/career, personal, and social development from a Biblical worldview.
- Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding graduation requirements, college entrance requirements, admissions procedures, scholarship opportunities, and financial aid processes.
- Plan and coordinate events such as college and career fairs, financial aid information meetings, and other programs that assist families with post-secondary planning.
- Keep students informed of important testing dates and deadlines for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and AP exams, and assist with registration as needed.
- Oversee the ordering, coordination, and administration of the PSAT for high school students.
- Maintain accurate records of student testing data, including SAT, PSAT, ACT, and AP exam results.
- Meet individually with all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students at least once each year, and with 12th grade students at least twice each year, to review academic progress, graduation status, and post-high school plans.
- Serve as the AP Coordinator, including oversight of AP exam ordering, administration, and communication with students and families.
- Maintain updated college, career, and scholarship resources that are accessible to students and families.
- Complete college recommendation forms and provide supporting documentation as needed.
- Assist the High School Principal in reviewing transcripts to ensure students are meeting graduation requirements and college entrance expectations.
- Monitor senior graduation progress and communicate any concerns promptly to the High School Principal.
- Oversee the course selection process, including providing recommendations, communicating with parents, and distributing course planning materials.
- Meet with students and parents as needed to address questions, concerns, and decisions regarding academic progress and college preparation.
- Provide guidance regarding UC a-g requirements and help students develop and maintain appropriate four-year academic plans.
- Update and maintain transcripts, including transfer credits and other academic records.
- Create and maintain a system for students to track achievements such as awards, service hours, extracurricular involvement, and other accomplishments.
- Participate in professional development opportunities as requested and supported by the school.
- Maintain data on graduates, including college admissions, scholarship offers, and post-secondary outcomes.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Christian colleges, universities, and other post-secondary institutions, creating opportunities for student connection and engagement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; counseling, education, or related field preferred.
- Experience in academic advising, school counseling, college planning, or related educational work preferred.
- Knowledge of graduation requirements, college admissions, financial aid, and standardized testing.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- A clear commitment to Christian education and the mission of the school
